The State issued two medals, one for National Guard service and one for Federal service. The National Guard issued medal is the harder one to obtain, with approximately 15,000 issued while the Federal service issued medal numbers around 135,000. (Numbers attained from Doug Boyce's excellent book State Medals for War Service).
